ChokLit Fresh – *New Video* Diddy, Dirty Money, Rick Ross & T.I in the Morning…

Diddy goes hard once again. If you follow Diddy on Twitter, you will notice the barrage of promotions and braggadocio he releases for every project he is working on. This works well for Kaleena and Dawn, his co-stars in the Dirty Money movie. I’ve been hearing about Hello, Good Morning for a looonnggg time, but it kept slipping my mind to post on it. I can’t deny the video for the Remix, directed by Hype Williams. Adding T.I and Rick Ross to the mix (each delivering some sick flows) only adds to the appeal of this song. Diddy is definitely doing something different here as he pairs pulsing club beats with street credible (I use this term loosely) Rapper flows. Hello, Good Morning may make your favourite neighborhood thug or trapstar wanna nod his head a little harder.

Just when I started to question what Hype was doing with the simplistic visuals, he kicks it up a notch or two near the end of the video for a grand finale that makes you want to believe in Bad Boy once again! Diddy and crew shut down 106 & Park down today to premiere the video (twice) and the kids were feelin it…

Dirty Money’s Last Train to Paris will finally hit stores June 29th!

Hot ChokLit! Christina Aguilera’s Not Myself Tonight Video…

Ok….so I’m a fan of Christina Aguilera’s. Her voice is a true gift and she definitely has immense talent as a performer and Singer. In addition to being an Artist, Christina is an attention whore junkie and is keen to pushing the envelope further and further. With each project, she has continued to make it her duty to wear less clothes, gyrate harder, grope herself tigher (lol). Granted, she isn’t the first, last or only Artist to use sex to sell, God forbid! Christina’s last project was a bit of a departure from her Dirty girl image and she cleaned it up for a classier image and look. 2006’s Back to Basics was a welcome change, but it didn’t push as many albums as Stripped – her hardcore, highly sexualixed album & image, did.

Fast forward to 2010, after a Best Of compilation album released in 2008, Aguilera gears up for her fourth solo album, Bionic to be released this June. Not Myself Tonight is the first single, which finds Aguilera abandoning her clothes inhibitions and feeling extra frisky during a night of seduction. The video is directed by Hype Williams with a budget that allows for over 10 background dancers and a scene with shirtless men dancing in the rain.

Christina reminds me of Madonna in her Human Nature video as she writhes around in black latex and ice blonde hair. The song is ok, I was going to post it a while back but was not inspired to. The video is definitely entertaining and gets a little out of control near the end (after the product placement for her new perfume) where Christina and a male model rape each other. She is not a shy girl!

Do you guys like the video?

Sidenote: I will NOT get into the Lady Gaga vs. Xtina debate. The Gaga Stans are patrolling the Internet looking to pick fights and I just don’t care enough. Gaga can come talk to Christina when she’s 4 albums deep #justsayin

Hot ChokLit! Nikki Minaj finally gets her Spotlight in Massive Attack Video

So after numerous guest features, Donk sightings, television appearances, Mixtape releases and featuring in your young man’s wet dreams, Nikki Minaj has FINALLY got her spotlight in her very own video for her first Single, Massive Attack. Hype Williams directs Nikki as she takes us to the dessert in her pink lambo with her androgynous sexy friend Amber Rose.  There is a lot that can be said about this video, but you just really have to watch it for yourself.

The song itself takes some getting used to as most people are calling it hot garbage. But I see the heat factor of this song. The beat is impossibly fast and borders on doing too much. Nikki’s rapping is so fast-paced and high-pitched that you have trouble hearing what the hell she is talking about. Sean Garrett saves the song with his impeccable talent with writing a perfect hook and melody. The hook makes this song a contender.

Nikki Minaj featuring Sean Garrett – Massive Attack

Some points on the video:

  • Yes, Nikki brings it with the facial expressions – you love it.
  • Yes, Nikki showcases the Donk – it gets some good camera time
  • Yes, Sean Garrett is shirtless once again. I think he is wearing me down – He look GOOD.
  • Yes, you may soon catch your favouite chickenhead rocking a green wig in a club near you. Lil Kim who…

Pour A Lil ChokLit Liquor: B.I.G’s Last Chance (R.I.P)

“Baby here I am
All I need is more chance
I can help you find yourself
Cause you don’t need nobody else”

Although the mortal life for greater-than-life Rapper Notorious B.I.G aka Biggie Smalls ended 13 years ago, his music, spirit and legacy arguably lives on. Especially in today’s age as many argue Rap music has taken a downward nosedive in its lyrical content and overall relevance. Biggie was always my favorite Rapper, even back when I didn’t understand most of the metaphors and references he used. I would still sneak out his CDs from my older brother’s collection and would listen to the tracks in my room. I admit I would often skip most of the more lyrical songs for the danceable tracks, practicing all my twerk and bounce skills in front of the mirror #dontjudgeme. Still, I loved Biggie’s swag; his art of storytelling, his commanding voice and his undeniable flow.  I especially loved how Biggie could guest spot on an R&B song like my 112’s Only You and give it INSTANT cred and classic status.

In June of 1995, Bad Boy Records released the remix to One More Chance (originally found on the Ready To Die album), replacing R&B group Total with Biggie’s wife and up and coming Bad Boy artist, Faith Evans. I should note, Faith (along with Mary J. Blige who also sang on the hook) KILLED this hook. Her voice is so smooth. One More Chance samples DeBarge’s 1983 hit Stay With Me. The song was sampled many times, most noticeably for Ashanti’s hit song, Foolish and its Remix Unfoolish back in 2002.

First things first, I Poppa freaks all the honies
Dummies, playboy bunnies, those wanting money,

Those the ones I like cuz they don’t get nathan
But penetration, unless it smell like sanitation

HOT ChokLit! Beyonce & Lady Gaga – Video Phone Remix

Funny story, I was on debating on Twitter and literally laughing my ass off thanks to Freshalina’s antics for so long last night, I didn’t have time to post on one of the most anticipated videos of the past….couple months. The current Queen B has paired up with the reigning Queen of Extra on the remix to Sasha Fierce’s Video Phone. The song is the same, just with a new verse sung by Gaga and perhaps a newer verse by Beyonce as well (I can’t tell). Interestingly enough, I was planning to do a post on the idiocy of the lyrics in this song….but perhaps I feared the wrath of the B stans and fell back. Regardless, this beat song has grown on me and I love Gaga’s verse on this! Not sure why but I love when she says “Hubbba Hubbba” as well as the overall tone of her voice.

Beyonce gets real duurty in this video too! She makes Rihanna’s barely there getups look like Sunday church attire. The choreography is fierce and director Hype Williams borrows the same stylist from the GoldDigger video he did for Kanye to make B into a fierce-looking Bettie Page. WERK!!!

50 Cent & Kelly Rowland make beautiful music together – oh yeah, and Ne-Yo!

Cute video and a good look for Ms Rowland who looks cute as ever! Kelly has the most beautiful skin! I thought the song was going to be better than this – more hood, gutter 50, but this is actually a nice change for him. And damn, he is lookin right in the video too! Maybe its the new grill? Ne-Yo is forgettable to me in this song. Why is that?

Sweet Tooth: Dirty Money – Angels Video

diddydawndirtyDiddy has been video-blogging, twittering and just plain running his mouth about his new group Dirty Money which features Dawn Richards, formerly of Danity Kane and newcomer Kaleena Harper who is a talented singer/songwriter. After months of hyping the group up, Diddy has released a video for Dirty Money’s song Angels, which is beautifully directed by Hype Williams. The video, shot in black and white, follows Diddy as he walks solemnly through the streets of New York wearing an ominous leather hoodie. Diddy is getting his Kayne on, as he sings with Autotune and evokes some emotion with his voice. The song is ok, nothing too special, with Notorious B.I.G opening the song. This video was just released today and is getting a lot of love. I am excited to see what else Dirty Money has in store. Dirty Money will appear on Diddy’s fifth solo album entitled, Last Train to Paris. The album will reveal a ‘electro-hip-hop-soul-funk’ sound.

If you are interested, check out this mixtape Diddy released a couple weeks back with DJ Felix Da Housecat. I bump this when I want to bug out a bit. Download the full mixtape here.

Music News ROLO: Get Caught up!!

So I am a little out of the loop due to last night’s late night activities (I wish) so, I wanted to make sure the CF readers weren’t missing a beat!

Blogger/Radio Personality Miss Info visits R.Kelly’s home in Chicago to preview his new album, Untitled
courtesy of ihiphop.com

ChokLit’s take: Are we still going with the Untitled shtick?? Ok Mr. Kelly. I love Kelly’s quote when he mentions his ‘research’ for this project included throwing parties at his mansion for a good month and judging the crowds’ reactions to his music. For his sake, I hope this was a 25+ only party…I love Miss Info 🙂

Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye get all  possessive for Run This Town video

ChokLit’s take: This video is on every single blog today so I’m sure you all have seen it already.I chose to watch it with the sound off for my own personal reasons. I love me some Rihanna, but the screeching in this song is a bit much, plus I simply enjoy watching her play dress up instead 🙂 (did that come out wrong??). Of course Rihanna looks stellar and appears ever so confident while performing next to her former Boss. Kanye steals his scenes – the only scenes Rihanna is not dominating. Sorry Hova, we barely noticed ya! Dope video, still.

Oldie Butta Goodie Bar: Jodeci – Feenin’

jodeci2

I told ya’ll I was working on my Jodeci 😉

I was at the hair salon the other day when they started playing the Illest R&B DJ mix I’ve heard in a long time! I’m talking about all the classics – from the early 90s and on. I was thisclose to severing ties with my stylist and just theifin’ the damn CD right there – I would appreciate it more than she would! As would my readers!

Alas, the stylist and I are still on good terms: I instead made some mental notes of the songs I needed to follow up on and here we are. Feenin’ by Jodeci circa 1994 from their sophomore album, Diary of a Mad Band.  I love this song! The first thought that came to mind when I watched the video was: N’SYNC bited Jodeci with their video directly stealing Feenin’s concept. The second thought was: the song and video are both very sexy and raw. It reminds me of a time in R&B – post-NewJack Swing era, where it was still cool to sing with great emotion and conviction; to sing about what someone’s love does to you or means to you, without mentioning you purchasing them the Gucci or the Louis.  This video was directed by Hype Williams & Devante. I am now beginning to understand the allure of this Mad Band. After 26 years (young!) at that….Enjoy!

*Sidenote: Peep the Baron’s POV on what happened to Jodeci nowadays. Sadly, these guys are NOT lookin well…

Milk Dudd: TheDream feat. Kanye West – Walking on the Moon

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Back before TheDream’s near flawless album, Love vs. Money was released, I posted a leak of this song, Walking on the Moon featuring Kanye West. But once the album came out, I was able to enjoy it in its entirety and this song fell on to the back-burner. Instead I was bumpin’, Take Her Home to My Mama, Mr. Yeah, or Put it Down instead. But…Def Jam still decided to release this song as TheDream’s third single. More likely because of Kanye being featured in the song will raise Dream’s profile in Mainstream media, a bit more. So I pocketed my opinions and watched the video, directed by one of my favourites, Hype Williams.

I’m sorry, this is a big NO for me. The video has stolen from been inspired by Michael & Janet Jackson’s innovative video, Scream. And I understand the recession, but this video looks cheap. From Dream’s homemade studded leather jacket to the played out black pleather gloves, you get the feeling they scaled back significantly on the Dream’s wardrobe in order to afford Kanye’s (he is the fashionista after all). The video models are pretty and Kanye raps his best lines to a dark Choklit model who seems as uninterested in the video as I am. The video looks like it is looking for its star, but Dream doesn’t fit the role, unfortunately. I hope this single does raise Dream’s profile a bit more, because I doubt we will be seeing another video from this stellar album.  Can’t win ’em all I guess.
