Milk Dudd: *Video* Teairra Marie – Sponsor featuring Gucci Mane & Soulja Boy

Teairra Marie quietly released her video for Sponsor a couple weeks ago.  The song has been getting airplay for a minute now, though her label has again taken too long to produce a video. As I have said before, I like Teairra; I think she has a nice, pleasant voice, she can sing and is cute to look at, but she has got to do better and come harder if she wants to succeed in this Industry.  Here are some of my thoughts on the video:

Dance or Sing: Choose ONE!

The choreography in this video is severely lackluster. My sister’s high school talent shows produced better dance sequences than this. And Teairra was tiptoeing through most of the routine like she didn’t want to break a sweat. If Rihanna can wine up a storm without looking foolish, Teairra will have to do more than spread her legs or prop her ass up. #DoBetter

Lack of Star Rapper

Sadly, like many artists who paid good money to work with Gucci Mane while he was still hot and relevant, then had to produce videos without the star feature since he is currently incarcerated, Womp Womp to them. Gucci may be the Lil Wayne of 2010 (when comparing how many R&B song features he is doing), but these constant video absences won’t cut it.

Hot ChokLit!: DoubleScoop – New Videos from Jagged Edge & Brutha

Following the lackluster effort (both creatively and commercially) that was 2007’s Baby-Makin’ Project, Jagged Edge parted ways with Island Def Jam (then being headed by Producer/friend Jermaine Dupri) and signed with Slip-N-Slide Records. Tip Of My Tongue has been bubbling on R&B radio for some months now; Jagged Edge also preformed the song on (Academy Award-Winning Actress) Monique’s talk show. Trina also joins Gucci Mane and Jagged Edge in the song, though Gucci, who is currently incarcerated did not make the video shoot. Good luck to JE on this project…I hope they have some better material this time around…

Former Reality show stars Brutha, return with their sophomore album Vacancy. I”m glad to see these guys are getting another chance; I liked some of their songs from their debut album. I personally thought the show was too much drama and clouded their talent while putting all their personal business out for everyone to see. Apparently they thought the same thing because this time around Brutha will not be documenting their lives on television. This video was premiered on 106 & Park this past Friday. One Day On This Earth was produced by Mysto & Pizzi, and written by R.Kelly. Clearly!! Listen to the song again, the adlibs, the rhythm, the bridge, a 100% R.Kelly song! I’m feeling this song!

Milk Dudd – Omarion & Gucci Mane Get It In

omariongetitin

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Omarion has returned to the scene sans Young Money (after a public fallout with the Clan) to ink a new deal with EMI records and release his new single, Get it in featuring Gucci Man. Since I am an Omarion fan (fuhgettabout the Face Off album, k?), I decided to post his video – though I am not crazy about it. I never really cared for the song too much, though Omarion’s dancing is fun to watch. It doesn’t look like Gucci even made the video shoot as he is in the background visuals during all of his scenes in the video. Ho-hum. I will patiently wait until Omarion comes back at us with some REAL R&B, like his former hit, O.

Also in Omarion news, he recently spoke with Sister 2 Sister magazine saying,

“No disrespect, but no Amber Rose for me. Everybody has their past – and don’t get me wrong, I’m not judgemental at all – but I do like a certain amount of class.”

Regarding his rumored marriage to a former stripper (???):

“I’m not married. I’m chilling. At this moment I’m not (dating). I have friends that I converse with, and I have that male-female camaraderie, but there’s no girlfriend at the moment”

Kudos to you Omarion. See ladies, you don’t have to be a stripper to snag a rapper/singer/athlete. You can have beauty and brains 🙂 I’m sure that’s not what Omarion meant, but what is sexier than some class? I will raise my glass to the Choosey Lover any day.

Melt In Your Ears: Triple Scoop: R.Kelly, Keri Hilson, Tierra Marie & Omarion

Tierra Marie

Tierra Marie has been steadily working on her re-introduction to the Urban music scene for some time now. After being unceremoniously dropped by Rocafella Records, Tierra regrouped in her hometown of Detroit before being signed again by Interscope and working on her comeback. On the blogs, she had earned the nickname T-Error for her decidedly failed attempt at female R&B stardom. I support Tierra because I think she actually has a very nice voice and has great command of it. But the poor thing needs a hit badly! In her new song Sponsor, Tierra is singing about her man who is able to sponsor most of the things she wants but cannot afford at the time. Also known as a sugar daddy. I read on another blog about Tierra referencing being in a student-type of situation in the song, hence the need for a ‘sponsor’. Maybe that justifies the basis of the song. Oh well. The song was penned by ATL-based songwriting team, The Clutch. The song is actually quite good, but most of her songs are good. Just not sure if it has the umph she needs. What say ya’ll?

R.Kelly & Keri Hilson

Lately, I’ve been feeling my boy Kellz again. Maybe it was the constant complaining I did about his Mixtape, or the fact that I still bump it in my Choklitpod everyday every now and then. Or maybe it was his official single done with Hot girl of the moment  Keri Hilson, Number One. It’s not the most original song or topic, but it works in many ways and on many levels. This is the remix of the song, that was hyped up on Kelly’s website R-Kelly.com. I was disappointed that this ‘remix’ was only the original song dubbed over a new beat instead of the entire song being re-worked. Usually Kelly is infamous for re-working entire songs to reveal ridiculously good remixes. Cases in point: Bump&Grind Remix, Down Low Remix, Friend of Mine Remix, Feelin’ on Yo Booty remix, and  the Fiesta Remix. Nonetheless, I really do like the original song but this new sped up, trippy remix is still quite enjoyable. Listen below!

Music News ROLO: FILA – Forever I Love Atlanta

fila-1

I know I have been avoiding my ChokLit Factory like the plague. I have been absent from the music for a bit and it shows. Of course my Readers still hung in there with me, so you already know I was cookin’ up some sweet stuff for ya’ll. I spent most of last week in one of my favourite cities, Atlanta, Georgia and best believe we had fuuuun 🙂

Stuntin' like Canadians!

Some of the clubs we frequented that I must shout out:

PURE on Thursday nights had a nice open space, room for VIPs and a spacious dance floor. The music was on point, if not repetitive, and some of the VIP staff was pushy, but this is a solid club where you are guaranteed a good time.

Club ESSO – Now, we only ended up here because Velvet Lounge was impossible to get into, but I am glad we did because only at ESSO did we get the true Decatur flavour – including music straight out of ATL’s hoods, a separate room for dancehall & reggae, and ladies wearing flip flops – yes flip flops.

Tongue & Groove is a new spot for Monday nights that caters to the women. With free martinis until 12am, a spacious area and a mix of professional meets street ATL men, it was a welcome cure for the Monday blues.

Now for the music! It took a while to recognize what was really hot in the ATL because the radio provided a lot of repetition (but what else do we expect?) and most of the songs were ones we’re heard before, like Trey Songz & Drake’s Successful, TheDream’s Sweat it Out and Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye’s We Run This Town.

But here are some real bangers we liked:

Sammie feat. Trey Songz – Bedroom G

I’ve actually heard this track before coming to Atlanta, but I still like the song nonetheless. Sammie pairs up with the Prince himself to tell the ladies how he gets down in the bedroom.

Gucci Mane feat. Plies – Wasted

This song is a certified ATL hit! Gucci Mane is the hottest ATL import right now and he now has his own hit to prove it! Plies adds some swag to the track as well. The beat knocks!

Lil Scrappy feat. Ludacris – Partna Dem

We just started hearing this song as we were leaving and it shut down the clubs when it played! The beat is ridiculous and Ludacris really brings it with his rhyme. Its Hot Choklit!

Don’t worry, we’ll have more info on the ATL with tomorrow’s posts! Yuuuup!

Chew On This: Mario feat. Sean Garrett & Gucci Mane – Break Up

Mario & Audra break up

I peeped this new video for Mario’s ensemble track for Break Up featuring singer/song-writer Sean Garrett and ATL trapper of the moment: Gucci Mane, over at ConcreteLoop.  When I first saw the video I was immediately entertained by the visuals and intrigued by Mario’s newly  bald head the concept of the song. The video is really slick (directed by Chris Robinson) and features Audra from RichGirl playing Mario’s love interest. In the song, Mario sings, “When I kiss you so good/Why would you wanna break up? When this lovin’ is so good/Why would you wanna break up?” The song also has Mario confessing that he is unfaithful, lies and doesn’t come home at night but also adds “Don’t I lace you with the Gucci?/Don’t I deck you in the Louis?”  Now, there are many things wrong with those lyrics and the concept behind it, and since the commenters over at CL got very heated on the subject, I thought I would add my two cents as well. But I will reiterate, I Love the song! Bangladesh does a great job on the beat, and Mario sounds great on this track! Also, even though I think Sean Garrett comes across as extremely arrogant, you cannot deny his song-writing skills and talent. And the scene with Sean boxing is …nice.

Chew on This!

Materialism: Ladies, if a man is treatin’ you badly, cheating on you constantly, disrespecting you in public (ie. talking to other females) and downright being a dog, but he is ‘lacing you in Gucci’ and you are asking yourself if you should leave, please do not pass Go and go straight to School! Not literally, but please note that nowadays guys love a girl who ‘got her own’ (well, Ne-yo, Jamie Foxx and Fabolous sure do!) so anything you can do to better yourself and to allow yourself to buy your own Gucci one day, is always a plus. Mario can stop right there with those lyrics!
