ChokLit Fresh: Lil Wayne is Single, Young Jeezy Loses his Mind…

Excuse me while I get back on my Hip Hop ish…

Lil Wayne with labelmate Shanell

I spotted this video over at Miss Info today and trust me, I had this on repeat all morning. I like the vibe of the Single, a song from his No Ceilings Mixtape. Ahhh Lil Wayne; any chick that messes with this guy has got to know what’s up…Wayne sings,

“Put ya hands up if you’re Single for the night,

Ya I’m single, N*gga had to cancel that b*tch like Nino”

Apparently the Tranny chick in the video is a Kim Khardishan look-a-like? Mmmm Kay.

The video was filmed before Wayne began his prison stint. His personal videographer, DJ Scooby Doo directed the clip. What do you guys think?

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Young Jeezy will be hitting us with his fourth album, Thug Motivation 103 this Summer. 103 is a followup to The Recession, Jeezy’s Gold-selling hit album released in 2008. His first buzz single Lose My Mind features Plies. This song hit the Internet back in March, though Def Jam is working overtime trying to keep it under wraps. I’m a big Jeezy fan so I’m excited for the album!

Melt in Your Ears: New videos from Mary, Mariah and Rihanna

The Bish is back!! Ok guys, thanks for sticking around and continuing to check the site out during my absence.  So lets get right back into it, because I’ve missed a whole lot!

First off we have Mary’s newest video for her second single, I Am. Mary looks great in the video, showin us how to really do the blond highlighted bang! Mary’s new album, Stronger With Each Tear is out right NOW! Go cop that ish!

Next we have Ms Mariah and her video for H.A.T.E.U. I feel like I’ve already seen this since I’ve been seeing promo pics of Mariah in this swimsuit for weeks now…I just think this video is ridiculous. This is literally a swimsuit covershoot or a homage to Victoria Secret’s 2010 collection. The video has no story and no purpose. I love Mariah’s music, but these lackluster videos really have to stop. Ok I’m done. Wait – TheDream’s version was better. There, I said it.

Music News ROLO: FILA – Forever I Love Atlanta Part II

iloveatlFinally we have the conclusion to the Atlanta music section on The CF that I benefited from while traveling down South a week  ago. One thing I will give Atlanta – or the South in general, is their ability to support their own artists and musical style. While other Coasts stay beefin’ and hatin’ on each other, the South stays supporting. Even though I noticed now, more than ever, that East Coast Hip Hop has infiltrated the clubs and radio in Atlanta, you can still always find that elusive hood Atlanta track that you will most likely not find anywhere else – at least not until Mainstream National Radio picks it up. Case in point: The Stanky Legg. ‘Nuff said. I have to admit, it took me a little while to find some of these, so I hope ya’ll enjoy!

*ChokLit’s Choice:

*Juvenile feat. Pleasure P – Hands on You

This is one of my fave R&B/Hip Hop mash-ups right now. Pleasure P croons lustfully over a beat while Juvenile raps some token ‘we don’t love these h*es’ lyrics, with his bouncy flow over a techno-sounding beat. Yet it all works. Juvie the Great is back and I for one can’t wait.  Are ya’ll still sleepin’ on Pleasure P??

youngjeezyD4L feat. Young Jeezy – Scotty (Remix)

Scotty is actually a track originally from D4L debut album, Down For Life released back in 2005. The beat on this track was such a Monster that Jeezy decided to revive it, making it became a big hit in the clubs. Rarely would a night of clubbing in Atlanta be without this song, so naturally I had to seek it out once I got home and settled. Jeezy really does do the song justice and gives it  some much-needed street cred. You’re welcome.

kandi2Black feat. Kandi – Try it out

I do not know much about this Rapper called Black, but I do know this song, Try it Out aka Get with this Pimpin’ was a Skripper club anthem, and hence got some radio and club love as well. Everything in the South seems to be born and bred out of the Strip clubs. And having a stripper pole in your home is as regular as owning a coffee table. But what about our daughters?? Social commentary aside, I like this song!

Keri Hilson – Slow Dance

Lastly, we have Slow Dance – the epitomy of the Atlien slow groove aka sex grind. Ciara perfected it with Promise, and now Keri Hilson having been passed the proverbial torch, takes her turn at one.  The instrumental alone is very suspect in its similarity to Promise…but aside from that, Keri’s voice rides this track effortlessly as she oozes sex appeal. Atlanta radio definitely showed this track some love.

ChokLit Fresh: New Music from Lil Boosie & Jeezy, Cam’ron, DJ Drama

Boosie Bad-Azz

This is what I’m bumpin’ right now. Call me crazy, but I love myself some Lil Boosie! His voice and flow are on point, and I really cannot resist a Southern rapper with flow. Boosie had some success with songs like I Ain’t got Nuthin (with David banner), Zoom and I.n.d.e.p.e.n.d.e.n.t, but most of those attempts did not garner him the recognition he deserves. This songs knocks though. And adding Jeezy to the track was the icing on the cake! Take a listen!

Lil Boosie feat. Young Jeezy – Better Believe Me

Cam’ron released his sixth studio album, Crime Pays on May 12th. It debuted at #3 on the billboard 200 and has gotten some solid reviews. I thought the album was pretty solid. Although I’m gonna say, some of the excessive misogyny in the lyrics irked me a couple times too many. Nonetheless, here is a standout track from the album, Cookies-N-Apple Juice. I liked this song the first time I heard it. It features Cam’s newest co-signee, Rapper Byrd Lady (hate that name). She is reminding me alot of incarcerated Rapper Remy Ma; her flow is real nice on this! There was a video for this song released to the Internet. Check it out here. Lots of…Ass. Anyways, peep the song!

ChokLit Fresh: Kanye West & Young Jeezy – So Amazin’

Ahhh the wait is over! Kanye finally released his new video for So Amazin’ featuring Young Jeezy on Thursday while visiting 106&Park. It was filmed in Hawaii, where Kanye has been hiding out recently, working in the studio. I wonder what took so long for the video to be released? We’ve been hearing about it for a minute! Was it worth the wait?

So Amazing was directed by Hype Williams, so the visuals are very appealing – just beautiful. This song is one of my favourite songs on the great album that is 808 & Heartbreaks. And this is definitely not your typical rap video ( I think there were only 1 or 2 females in this one) so it may appear boring to some. But the video was probably not made with these ‘some’ in mind!

Young Jeezy really does it for me on this song. His cameos are getting better and better – from supporting Ciara in Never Ever, to selling the swagg in Usher’s Love in the Club, back to The Dream’s I Love your Girl from last year. Keep watching the video to see Kanye kick it with Rocsi, Terrance & crew. Its a good interview because Kanye tries hard to be ‘humble’ or normal really, and it doesn’t work. He’s gotta be Egotastic!

Do you guys like the vid? Do you find it beautiful or boring? Holla!

*Side Note: Big ups to GLC – I love this dude’s voice

Music News ROLO: Soulja Boy with the #1 song in NYC, huh?

Still taking those camera phone pics...

Still taking those camera phone pics...

I read this over at Sandra Rose’s spot and I had to post Greg Street’s comment. Basically, legendary radio DJ Greg Street is explaining the phenomenom that is Soulja Boy’s hit song , Turn my Swag on, that was released 10 Months (!) ago, and is now one of the hottest songs in rap. I’ll admit, I even pegged Soulja Boy as a one-hit wonder, after his Monster success with 2007’s Crank Dat. But he and Collipark have still managed to make an impact in Rap music. Then came a little song called, Turn my Swag On.

Soulja Boy’s second single, Kiss me Through the Phone featured young crooner Sammie and did very well for them, peaking at number 3 on the Billboard 100. The song was also a hit on 106 & Park and MTV, and sold millions of Ringtones, naturally. Of his new foray into R&B-Rap, Soulja Boy commented:

“My fans let me know, enough with that dancing songs for now…Now it’s time to do great music like Kiss Me Through the Phone…It’s a real record, no gimmick. It’s a catchy record ,’cause that’s what my fans want.” Source

ChokLitFactory Exclusive: Top 25 R&B Songs of 2008 Part II

My apologies for the late post. Life is working me hard right about now…But lets keep this moving.

Last post, we had Ne-Yo, Trey Songz and Lloyd holding their own on the list. While Beyonce and Keyshia Cole held it down for the ladies. Now we’ll get more upbeat as the next set of songs showcase songs that had us Rockin that thang up in the clubs. We’ll start things off with a ChokLitFactory fave, Mr. Nash.

*Players are fixed! They should play fine now!

17 – The Dream feat. Young Jeezy  – I Luv Your Girl Remix

This track released as TheDream’s 3rd single was a monster hit for Mr. Nash. Me, having the privilege of being in the ATLfor the summer of the song’s release, can attest to the hit factor of this song. The chorus was catchy as sin and the playful “Ahhh…Ah Ah Ah Ah!!” sent ladies everywhere in a tizzy up in the clubs.

TheDream feat. Young Jeezy – I Luv Your Girl

16 – Slim feat. Ryan Leslie & Fabolous – Good Lovin’

Ryan Leslie is a friend to the ChokLitFactory in my mind; gotta give respect where respect is due. And Slim is well known as well, for his uniquely soft voice and his success with the former R&B Group, 112. So this song already contains two of my favourite artists. The groove is sexy and plays well against Slim’s vocals. Def a hit!
