ChokLit Fresh – *New Video* Diddy, Dirty Money, Rick Ross & T.I in the Morning…

Diddy goes hard once again. If you follow Diddy on Twitter, you will notice the barrage of promotions and braggadocio he releases for every project he is working on. This works well for Kaleena and Dawn, his co-stars in the Dirty Money movie. I’ve been hearing about Hello, Good Morning for a looonnggg time, but it kept slipping my mind to post on it. I can’t deny the video for the Remix, directed by Hype Williams. Adding T.I and Rick Ross to the mix (each delivering some sick flows) only adds to the appeal of this song. Diddy is definitely doing something different here as he pairs pulsing club beats with street credible (I use this term loosely) Rapper flows. Hello, Good Morning may make your favourite neighborhood thug or trapstar wanna nod his head a little harder.

Just when I started to question what Hype was doing with the simplistic visuals, he kicks it up a notch or two near the end of the video for a grand finale that makes you want to believe in Bad Boy once again! Diddy and crew shut down 106 & Park down today to premiere the video (twice) and the kids were feelin it…

Dirty Money’s Last Train to Paris will finally hit stores June 29th!

Pour A Lil ChokLit Liquor: B.I.G’s Last Chance (R.I.P)

“Baby here I am
All I need is more chance
I can help you find yourself
Cause you don’t need nobody else”

Although the mortal life for greater-than-life Rapper Notorious B.I.G aka Biggie Smalls ended 13 years ago, his music, spirit and legacy arguably lives on. Especially in today’s age as many argue Rap music has taken a downward nosedive in its lyrical content and overall relevance. Biggie was always my favorite Rapper, even back when I didn’t understand most of the metaphors and references he used. I would still sneak out his CDs from my older brother’s collection and would listen to the tracks in my room. I admit I would often skip most of the more lyrical songs for the danceable tracks, practicing all my twerk and bounce skills in front of the mirror #dontjudgeme. Still, I loved Biggie’s swag; his art of storytelling, his commanding voice and his undeniable flow.  I especially loved how Biggie could guest spot on an R&B song like my 112’s Only You and give it INSTANT cred and classic status.

In June of 1995, Bad Boy Records released the remix to One More Chance (originally found on the Ready To Die album), replacing R&B group Total with Biggie’s wife and up and coming Bad Boy artist, Faith Evans. I should note, Faith (along with Mary J. Blige who also sang on the hook) KILLED this hook. Her voice is so smooth. One More Chance samples DeBarge’s 1983 hit Stay With Me. The song was sampled many times, most noticeably for Ashanti’s hit song, Foolish and its Remix Unfoolish back in 2002.

First things first, I Poppa freaks all the honies
Dummies, playboy bunnies, those wanting money,

Those the ones I like cuz they don’t get nathan
But penetration, unless it smell like sanitation

Butta Of the Week! Dirty Money’s ‘Love Come Down’ video

For some reason I was a bit reluctant to watch the video for Dirty Money’s newest single, Love Come Down, but I finally came around to it and I gotta say, I’m feelin this joint! Diddy and co reunite with director Hype Williams for a slick video that includes light vs. dark contrasts, a requisite dance troupe and spirited performances by all three group members. Kaleena really stood out in this clip for me; she is giving me Total circa 1998 in this video. A pure original Bad Boys vibe! Also her vocals on this track are perfect for the song – now I see why she was chosen for the group! Dawn surprisingly doesn’t do much for me appearance wise, though I am digging her vocals on this as well. Diddy plays his part as the dancing thug mogul and reminds us that grills Neva went outta style! Or something. this video makes me wanna get up and dance right quick – so Diddy has done his job! This song will be featured on Diddy’s newest effort Last Train to Paris. Note to aspiring artists trying to sign with Bad Boy: if you want your video/project/album to ever be released or to have a substantial budget, you must either join a group with Diddy or be sleeping with him. I kid, I kid!

Sweet Tooth: Dirty Money – Angels Video

diddydawndirtyDiddy has been video-blogging, twittering and just plain running his mouth about his new group Dirty Money which features Dawn Richards, formerly of Danity Kane and newcomer Kaleena Harper who is a talented singer/songwriter. After months of hyping the group up, Diddy has released a video for Dirty Money’s song Angels, which is beautifully directed by Hype Williams. The video, shot in black and white, follows Diddy as he walks solemnly through the streets of New York wearing an ominous leather hoodie. Diddy is getting his Kayne on, as he sings with Autotune and evokes some emotion with his voice. The song is ok, nothing too special, with Notorious B.I.G opening the song. This video was just released today and is getting a lot of love. I am excited to see what else Dirty Money has in store. Dirty Money will appear on Diddy’s fifth solo album entitled, Last Train to Paris. The album will reveal a ‘electro-hip-hop-soul-funk’ sound.

If you are interested, check out this mixtape Diddy released a couple weeks back with DJ Felix Da Housecat. I bump this when I want to bug out a bit. Download the full mixtape here.

Hot ChokLit: Cassie feat. Diddy – Must Be Love Video

Are we degenerating back to 'Puff Daddy'? Or is this a typo?

Are we degenerating back to 'Puff Daddy'? Or is this a typo?

Cassie has released her video for her next (first, second? who’s counting anymore) Single from her forthcoming album, Electro Love(I like the title!).  Must Be Love was directly by Bernard Gourley, who I haven’t seen do a low-budget R&B vid in ages (or ever, maybe, my memory is not that good). I watched this video with my claws out ready to pounce on Diddy if he appears to have spent wreckless amount of dollars on Jump-off’s Homegirl’s video. But soon, I retracted those claws. He definitely didn’t spend no real dough on this video. And rightly so! Diddy knows those MTB boys and [the former] Danity Kane are his Cash cows, so he needs to act as such.  This video is very simplistic, and is focusing on the sexual energy between young Cassie and grown-ass Diddy. The two Artists reside in hotter-than-hell rooms, caressing the wall between them, keeping their desires apart. Near the climax, pause, of the video, the room ignites on Fire, seemingly because the tension is too great.

Nowadays I am rarely impressed by a lot of these run-of the-ChokLit-Mill videos coming out. Cassie looks great..blah blah blah, I like her outfit blah blah blah. Lack of inspiration me thinks…what did you all think? Go ahead, gather your thoughts…I’m off to go watch Usher’s Trading Places… Whaddup Chris Robinson!

Milk Dudd: Cassie + The Dream – Keep on Lovin Me

Ok, we will address this Cassie thing, only because she has recently released a new song with my dude, The Dream.

So this past weekend, Ms Cassie decided to shave off half of her head. She posted pics of her new ‘do on Twitter and also added this official ‘statement’:

Sometimes in life, you need a change. Something deeper than what you thought you were capable of. Something that displays the “I don’t give a f*ck” attitude that was always present but never showcased. Something that makes you look at this whole wide world differently. And something that will shock your mother, but will make her call you a ROCKSTAR. Yea I did it…
After various comments and responses on her Twitter page (what did she think would happen??) Cassie again responded:”They ask why?? Lol… B/C I WOKE UP AND FELT LIKE IT!!! YEEEAHHH!!! LOL 🙂 Have a great weekend!xx
Well…I guess Homegirl is officially a ‘Rockstar’!  Diddy needs to come get his girl, and make her the Official girl already…but alas, this is just for attention, we know. A couple weeks ago we posted her new track with Diddy, Must be Love, and now she gets a new ‘Look’ and a “I don’t give a F*ck’ attitude to match… Did we really need the Twitter announcement? And the official statements? Hmmmm…

Butta of the Week: Day26, Diddy & Yung Joc – Imma Put It On Her

This past week, Day 26 released the new video for their song, I’mma Put it on Her, featuring Diddy and Yung Joc. And, surprisingly, I like it!

Vodpod videos no longer available.

I was a fan of MTB3 with Danity Kane and Day 26, but I mostly watched because of the girls. Day 26 was bland and boring and had no chemistry as a group, in my opinion. But now that Danity Kane has destroyed their respective careers by disbanding, all that’s left of the MTB saga is Day 26 and Dawn trying to make it as a solo artist. (I actually like Dawn and think she is very talented btw). Day 26…let’s just say they did not keep my attention this season.

Melt in Your Ears: Triple Scoop! Cassie, Ne-Yo & Electrik Red

Alot of music is leaking onto the Nets lately, good news for us! I’ve got a triple scoop for y’all to taste today!

Cassie & Diddy

Cassie & Diddy

First off we have Cassie & Diddy, a track they did together that was produced by Mario Winans. This was leaked a couple weeks ago but I guess I missed the Memo (Bad Boy, holla atcha girl!). Cassie, Cassie, Cassie. Some say she f*cks for tracks, she has no talent, she’s nothin’ but a pretty face, etc. But at the end of the day, she is close with Diddy, so she isn’t going anywhere anytime soon…the same can be said for Christina Milian thanks to her close relationship with TheDream. Nevertheless, on a good day, I dig Cassie. Not sure how she will fare now that she doesn’t seem to be working with Ryan Leslie anymore, but I’ve heard an improvement in her voice lately and I actually like some of her music! Her last single, Official Girl took a Looooong time to grow on me, but once it did, I really got into it. Too bad it went nowhere. This song has similar potential. Its slow-moving, nothing too special upon the first couple listens. But the brooding production seems like it may grow on me in the near future, so we will see. Check it out after the jump!
