Sweet Tooth: Keyshia Cole – Brand New

I saw these cute pics of Keyshia Cole (I LOVE the jumpsuit!) cuddled up to her new man, Daniel Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers on CL. Jeezy who?? Anyways, I was spurred to listen to Keyshia’s album again. I spoke in another post that I was sleeping on Keyshia’s new album, A Different Me, due to her first single that I hated. I can see why Keyshia named this project, A Different Me. She has definitely matured as a person, songwriter and artist. Keyshia has a lot of slower joints on this album, but they are Quality slow jams, which is what really counts. This song, Brand New is one of my favourite songs of Keyshia’s, and a fave of a good friend of mine’s as well. I searched all over to find who duets with Keyshia in this song, I believe it is Pleasure P. He has a good voice when he is not singing in that annoying falsetto. Enjoy some lyrics and the song below!

I want you to wrap your hands around my body
Take me to another place, let’s get away from here
I want you to let me know exactly how you feel
No holding back, no strings attached, wanna touch your body

Let me show you something brand new
We’re through, we’ll talk all night
What’s on your mind?

Butta of the Week: Keyshia Cole & Monica – TRUST

Tha Dream Team

Tha Dream Team

I just peeped this video for Trust on ConcreteLoop, and I have to say, this is one of the best R&B collabs in a long time! I may have erroneously slept on Keyshia’s last album, A Different Me. Between what I’ve heard from this and her last single, You Complete Me, Keyshia has showed alot of maturity and growth in her music this time around.  This being her second slow-paced single, I’m glad Interscope released this. I’m also glad Monica is getting some shine. This is a great song that showcases both ladies’ vocal abilities. (Monica takes us to Chuuuch for a bit there as well!)

Now ladies (and the mens), lets talk about some fashion a bit. How fierce is Monica’s look?? Her haircut, the butter leather Marc Jacobs jacket, the Chloe BOOTS? Monica doesn’t play around. Her haircut is killin me right now. And I’m loving Keyshia’s play on the green – on her fingernails and eyelids. The video is styled very well. Chris Robinson always pays alot of attention to detail and this video is no different.

I hope ya’ll are feeling this video as much as I am 🙂 Thoughts?

ChokLitFactory Exclusive: Top 25 R&B songs of 2008 Part I

This is EPIC! So big…we needed 3 posts!

So, this list is a bit dated, I know. Most people start to post these around December or, more appropriately, January of the New Year. So I am slow on this, but better late than never! 2008 wasn’t the best year in R&B, but it wasn’t the worst either. The good news is that we had some good, solid efforts from newcomers like TheDream, Estelle, Jennifer Hudson and Jazmine Sullivan. Also, the veterans made sure they kept at the top of their game; Alicia gave a solid, soulful effort, Beyonce gave us two sides to her personality to dance to and Usher made a late, great entry with Trading Places, off his Here I Standflop (sorry, Ush). Also, the sophomore slump didn’t affect the homies Trey Songz, who introduced us to his more hip-hop-influenced side; Lyfe Jennings who brought some more up-tempos cuts with his third release and Raheem Devaughn, who started off 2008 with his hit, Customer.

Other notables include the ever-changing Erykah Badu, Solange, with her impressive sophomore album, Solange and the Hadley Street Dreams and Raphael Saadiq’s critically acclaimed, The Way I see it. It was hard to keep the Hip Hop out, so forgive me for sneaking some T-Pain and Weezy up in there! Enjoy! Didn’t agree? Then speak on it!!

**Update: All Some of my wonderful links aren’t currently working. You can hover around the link to get the player to open up in another window, then press play from there. Sorry for inconvience 😦

25 – Joe – Why just be friends

Joe struggled to get some attention in the‘08 with his new effort, New Man. But this lead single was a welcome treat with Joe’s airy vocals and the song’s slinky, sexy beats.

24 – Beyonce – Ego
Beyonce came at us strong with her newest album, I am…Sasha Fierce, but her album was very mainstream and pop-driven. Luckily, Ego is one track ChokLit Heads can get down to. With cocky lyrics like, “I talk like this ‘cuz I can back it up! I got a big Ego…” and the song’s old-school R&B feel, it is definitely a standout track from her current effort. Take note.

Sweet Tooth: Keyshia Cole – You Complete Me

So… I know Valentine’s Day was last week – and this video is def for the lovers – but Keyshia really impressed me with her new single, You Complete Me. Vocally, she sounds great; there is a sense of urgency in her voice that I like. This video, directed by Benny Boom, has a nice atmosphere to it and Keyshia looks great in it – naturally. Unfortunately, no Frankie sighting in this video, but still a good look. Check it out!
