Sweet Tooth: *New Video* Alicia Keys – Unthinkable

I was wondering maybe
Could I make you my baby
If we do the unthinkable would it make us so crazy
Or would it be so beautiful either way I’m saying
If you ask me I’m ready…

Alicia Keys finally makes good use of her immaculate album, Element of Freedom, with the video for Unthinkable. Directed by Jake Nava, it follows the story of a couple doomed to love and the courage it takes to overcome the fear and/or stigma. The story floats between different time eras seamlessly, adding to the allure of the video. Chad Michael Murray from CW’s One Tree Hill (I know my girl BSB is a fan!) plays Alicia’s love interest.

Ok, I LOVE the video! Alicia looks classic and sexy and the storyline really tugs at the heartstrings. The scene in the convenience store is the cutest! Soooo my ethnic ladies, does this video entice you to try and date outside your race, finally? Or is it just a cute video?

Sweet Tooth: Kelly Rowland Won’t Quit – She’s Back with ‘Commander’

Kelly Rowland just might get her chance in the Sun.  After switching Management last year and enjoying some success overseas, Kelly released a buzz track Smooches (originally meant for Teyana Taylor) that did not really Buzz at all. Luckily she found a sound better suited for her. Commander, written by Rico Love (who also wrote Beyonce’s Sweet Dreams and Usher’s Daddy’s Home) and produced by David Guetta who also dueted wth Kelly on a record last year.

This truly is dance/electro-pop at its finest and it actually really works well for Kelly. I don’t really believe Kelly’s vocals work well for core R&B, she is more suited for less vocally complicated pop songs – in my opinion, of course. Also, Kelly’s music and image is huge is England/Europe while she plays second (or fourth) fiddle to female artists here in North America. So it makes sense for Kelly to appeal to the image and music of the fans who appreciate her (ie. buy her music). I can see this song being a hit for Kelly. Check out some pictures from the set of her video for Commander. The director is Muto and will feature choreography from Aaliyah’s former choreographer Fatima Robinson, which is exciting! What do you guys think of the song?

Sweet Tooth: *New Video* Sade – BabyFather

Sade recently released a video for their second single from their Gold-selling Soldier of Love album, called BabyFather. In the video, Sade plays a sexy homemaker  baking and cleaning as she sings along to her radio and watches the young children playing outside. The song is beautiful, with a Jamaican/Reggae tinge to it. The lyrics speak of a love that grows and eventually leads to a child, then describes the love the father will have for this child. Sade sings,

For you child
For you he’s the best he can be
For you child
For you he’s the best he can be
Oh child don’t you know
Your daddy love come with a life time guarantee
Your daddy knows you’re a flame

The video also features bright colors and has a retro feel to it. Sade looks stunning as usual! Enjoy the video below.

Sweet Tooth: *New Video* K.Michelle – Fallin’

K Michelle clowns it up with co-star Kerry Rhodes. Pic courtesy of MissXpose.com

Here is the video for Fallin’, that I told ya’ll about last week. The video definitely makes me like the song more; I’m feeling the slow motion effects that enhance the dramatics of the song. K. Michelle is giving me a lil’ bit of Keyshia Cole in this video, which may work well for the Memphis Native. The video premiered on 106 & Park today. It was directed by Armen and if you are interested, K.Michelle’s makeup was done by Makeup Artist Dedivanovic who explains how he created Michelle’s look here.

K. Michelle’s object of desire in the video is football player Kerry Rhodes, but in real life, she stands by her Pied Piper…

Check the video below and let me know your thoughts!

Sweet Tooth: New music from Chris Brown, Teairra Marie & Olivia

I heard this track floating around a week or so ago and I’m really feeling it! Most people credit the song as Chris Brown’s, but the voice you will hear first on this track belongs to Lonnie BeReal. He is a talented songwriter and up-and-coming Artist from L.A who is good friends with Brown and Teyana Taylor, who is also featured on the song’s chorus. BeReal is signed to Jamie Foxx’s Foxxhole Entertainment. According to his MySpace, BeReal has co-written 3 songs on Chris Brown’s Graffiti album, including I Can Transform Ya, as well as two tracks on Omarion’s Ollusion album. This song, called Favor starts off sweetly enough before it goes into full R&B freak mode boasting lyrics like,  “Scratch my back, bite your neck, welcome to the world of making sex” The song is produced by BattleRoy & J.Marlon. This a good introduction for BeReal and a nice Single for Brown as he is trying to get that sex status symbol back. Hit up BeReal’s Myspace or Twitter.

Lonnie BeReal, Chris Brown & Teyana Taylor – Favor

Teairra can’t stop and won’t stop – I have to admire the girl’s hustle! To follow the buzz she created with Sponsor, Teairra has leaked another track called Goodie Bag. Produced by Rico Love, the song sort of sounds like it stole Chris Brown’s Yo beat and ran with it… The lyrics are a little weak at first, but the chorus is pretty catchy. Teairra even shows off her pipes a bit with a high note. This is a cute song for the Summer, I’m feelin it.

Sweet Tooth: *Video* Vivian Green – Beautiful

Singer/Songwriter pianist Vivian Green is returning with another project named Beautiful. The first single of the same title is Green’s first song in over 3 years. I wasn’t really a fan of Vivian’s first single  Emotional Rollercoaster from 2002, but she clearly developed a fan base because her debut album, A Love Story went Gold, selling over 500,000 copies. Sadly, she could not duplicate that success as her latest album Vivian sold less than 50,000 copies, even though it produced a strong Single with Gotta Go, Gotta Leave (Tired).

Now signed with E1 Records, Green is hoping to recover her fanbase again with this new project. I personally do not like the song though the video is nice. Although I like the overall message of the song, I find it very forgettable and that it lacks any real structure or present melody. It comes across more like an album cut and not a lead single. Considering her label actually gave Vivian a budget to work with and she looks strikingly beautiful in the video, I think their efforts may have been wasted. Usually, Artists like Vivian get one to two chances to release a Single and I don’t think this was the best choice for her. Maybe it will grow on me?

The video was directed by Christopher Standford. The album Beautiful will be released April 6th on E1 Records. What did you guys think of the song and video?

Sweet Tooth: Teedra Moses’s Royal Patience Compilation Mixtape

I took my time in posting this because I’ve been trying to work out some kinks behind the scenes here at the CF and also because I wanted to listen to the Mixtape myself first (selfish, I know)! Teedra Moses has released her Royal Patience Compilation Mixtape for your listening pleasure. The compilation is a free download meant to promote her forthcoming album that has been a long time coming, The Lioness.

This is a very nice collection of Moses’ latest work. Teedra has mastered the artistic presence of the vulnerable lover who yearns to be with a man who does not appreciate her. Yet, Teedra does it in a way that makes you empathize with her, not pity or look down on her. Some highlights include R U 4Real (Freesytle), Kisses Never Tasted so Sweet, International Playboi and Realize.

Sweet Tooth: *Video* Monica – Everything to Me

Here is the video for Monica’s Everything to Me. As I mentioned in a previous post, Monica is wearing all Alexander McQueen designs and she dedicates this video to the late designer. Chad Ochocinco plays Monica’s love interest. I assume Monica has the choice of who plays her love interests in her videos. Judging from her past picks that include Jamie Hector (from the Wire), Rapper Young Buck and Derek Luke (Antoine Fischer), Mo likes ’em tall, dark and handsome!

For some reason, director Benny Boom thought it was a good idea to rip the plot from the ‘Hollywood classic’, Obsessed…nonetheless, the video was entertaining and had a cute surprise ending.

Monica looks flawless throughout the video; a class act as usual. My favourite part is Mo’s eyeroll at 1:41 when the stalker tries to approach her man. Monica does not play.

Did you guys like the video? Monica’s album Still Standing will be in stores March 23rd.

Melt in Your Ears: *Video* Leela James – Tell Me You Love Me

The young Singer with the old-school voice and big hair, Leela James has returned to the R&B scene with her new song and video for Tell Me You Love Me. Her new album titled My Soul will be released May 25th, independently on Stax Records. I never really got into James’ music when she first came out, although I did love her voice. At only 26 years old, James is known as having an old soul since her music is often compared and modelled after the R&B music of the 60s and 70s. Tell Me You Love Me is no different as the song samples a rift from The Manhattan’s classic ballad, Then You can Tell Me GoodBye. I’m loving both songs! Best of luck to Leela this time around, hopefully this Single will get her a lot more recognition. What do you guys think of Leela’s song?

Sidenote: Isn’t Leela’s hair amazing? Love it!

Sweet Tooth: Nivea & Rashieda – Say Something Remix **Updated**

Memo to TheDream > this bud’s for you!

Image courtesty of FreddyO.com

Nivea and Atlanta rapper Rasheeda recorded a remix track to Timbaland & Drake’s song, Say Something, and it is sounding better than the original! Nivea has decided to make a comeback of sorts after dropping Lil Wayne’s baby last year. If you are following the drama that surrounds Nivea and her ex-husband Terius Nash, you’ll notice that these two do a lot of talking to one another through their music. Its all in the lyrics – if you’re quick enough to figure it out. Many times during Dream’s latest album, Love vs. Money, He speaks about heartbreak and the effects love and money has on a relationship. Most poignantly in the song Love vs Money Part II, TheDream lays it all out on the table:

So kiss that n*gga, hug that n*gga,
love that n*gga to death
Go ahead and please that n*gga, feed that n*gga
In time you’ll see the problem’s yourself

Coz when love is your problem…nothing can solve it
When love is the problem (eh!)…money can’t solve it

Finally Nivea has her chance to speak with this song. Have a listen.

Nivea & Rasheeda – Say Something remix

Wish I could pull you out the game, cause it’s the thing that made you change,
It ain’t the money honey, lend me some money honey,
Thought I was your heart before your black card,
You told the world about me but you forgot about me…

**Updated** Here is the video for Say Something. It turned out better than I thought!
