Hot ChokLit! Nikki Minaj finally gets her Spotlight in Massive Attack Video

So after numerous guest features, Donk sightings, television appearances, Mixtape releases and featuring in your young man’s wet dreams, Nikki Minaj has FINALLY got her spotlight in her very own video for her first Single, Massive Attack. Hype Williams directs Nikki as she takes us to the dessert in her pink lambo with her androgynous sexy friend Amber Rose.  There is a lot that can be said about this video, but you just really have to watch it for yourself.

The song itself takes some getting used to as most people are calling it hot garbage. But I see the heat factor of this song. The beat is impossibly fast and borders on doing too much. Nikki’s rapping is so fast-paced and high-pitched that you have trouble hearing what the hell she is talking about. Sean Garrett saves the song with his impeccable talent with writing a perfect hook and melody. The hook makes this song a contender.

Nikki Minaj featuring Sean Garrett – Massive Attack

Some points on the video:

  • Yes, Nikki brings it with the facial expressions – you love it.
  • Yes, Nikki showcases the Donk – it gets some good camera time
  • Yes, Sean Garrett is shirtless once again. I think he is wearing me down – He look GOOD.
  • Yes, you may soon catch your favouite chickenhead rocking a green wig in a club near you. Lil Kim who…

Hot ChokLit! *New Video* Usher featuring Nikki Minaj – Lil Freak

image via PitchFork.com

Just in time for the release of his sixth full length album Raymond vs. Raymond, Usher has released the anticipated video to his hit second single, Lil Freak. Polow Da Don produced the song we first previewed here, using a sample from Stevie Wonder’s Living for the City, which I never caught at first. A lot of Stevie’s music is being sampled lately, which just showcases his music’s never-ending appeal.

The Lil Freak video was directed by TAJ. The plot centers around a young woman who wanders into an underground club of some sorts where Usher is watching. He sends his girl Nikki out to recruit the female. The video is described as having some similar elements as the the Saw movies. Nikki is entertaining in her Cruella Deville wig and exaggerated facial expressions. Ciara and Jamie Foxx make very brief (and pointless) cameos, while Usher appears very vacant in the video and the only dancing we see from him is some writhing he does near the video’s end. Nonetheless, I like the video!

What are your thoughts?

Raymond Vs. Raymond hits stores this Tuesday, March 30th. Hopefully we sill have a review for the album before then 🙂

Milk Dudd: Mariah’s two new videos with Nikki Minaj & Ne-Yo

As much as I love me some Mariah *straighface* , I had to name this post Milk Dudd. Last month I reported that Mariah would be releasing a remix album to her Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel album that was a solid effort but failed to catch on commercially. Next I heard, Def Jam was cutting the strings on promotions for Angel, but would still move forward with the Remix project. They released Up Out My Face feat. Nikki Minaj and Angels Cry feat. Ne-Ye  some weeks back. Now we have the videos to accompany the music. Ummmm the jury’s out for me on this project – it is getting the side-eye from me. Nick Cannon directed both videos…and it looks like Mariah possibly paid for both videos. Mariah and Nikki are definitely very cute and animated, bringing life to their song. With Angels Cry however, I couldn’t get past the first minute…without yawning. See what you guys think.

*Sidenote: I wonder how Nikki’s album is coming along. She is EVERYWHERE these days!

ChokLit Fresh: Young Money’s New Single – who laid the Hook Best??

Young Moo-la ba-bee

Young Moo-la ba-bee

First off, we must give respect where respect is due. You may have your qualms about Lil Wayne, but you must admit he has an ear (and an eye) for talent. I haven’t been keeping up with the lineup changes as much as I should, but adding Miss Nikki Minaj, Drake, and now Shanell and Omarion were some good looks for YM. Now they have released an ensemble track as a lead single (to a full length album perhaps? yes, I’m late) that is produced by Kane Beatz. The single features Wayne, Gudda Gudda, Nikki Minaj, Drake, Tyga (when did he join YM?) and Jae Millz. There are two versions to this song. It was initially recorded when Omarion was still a part of Young Money (they have since parted ways) and was called Girl You Know. Now that Omarion has left to pursue his own endeavours (O recently signed a deal with EMI records) YM has tapped the talented singer Lloyd for their official single, and also laid a new hook with him for the song now dubbed Bed Rock. The only problem is, the song now sounds too much like an ensemble track because none of the artists appear to be rapping about the same topic.

Regardless, the song is hot. It’s very simplistic, but it works – for me at least. I love the beat on this as well. Only question is, who sang the hook best? I am a big fan of Omarion’s voice period. I’ve always liked the strain in his voice, since it gave him character as a singer. I was definitely excited when I heard he was signed to Young Money, especially after having being dropped by Sony not too long ago. However, I am also a big fan of Lloyd’s as well. Lloyd’s voice is velvety-smooth and is very unique as well. But if I had to choose, I would have to give it to my man O on this one. Although Lloyd has the better hook, Omarion’s voice suites the beat just a tad bit better for me.

But what did ya’ll think??

Omarion’s version:

Lloyd’s version:

**Side Note: I’mma need Wayne and his Young Money crew to start throwin’ some money into more photo shoots for their artists (namely for Nikki) so we Bloggers can have more stock photos to choose from 🙂 And who the f*ck is Gudda Gudda??

ChokLit Fresh – Angel Lola Luv in the Booth & speaks on Nikki Minaj

LolaLuv

I spotted this video of Angel Lola Love aka Lola Monroe over at Sandra Rose and immediately thought, I have to see this! I hadn’t heard homegirl’s oral skills, pause, yet and I wanted to know if she had anything on ol’ girl Nikki Minaj. I have to say I was surprised. Angel does have a decent flow. I think she over-pronounciates her words alot for a ‘rapper’, but nothin’ wrong with speakin’ proper! I should know! Angel took on the classic Biggie song, What’s Beef and handled it well. Apparently, her new mixtape Boss Bitches will be availalbe on her Myspace as of June 14th. I take it she is NOT signed with G-Unit, as was rumoured?

Music News Rolo: New Music from Cam’ron, Nikki Minaj & Akon, T-Pain & Ace Hood

So because ya’ll asked for it, I’ve got some new Hip Hop tracks for ya’ll that are currently bumping in the ChokLit Factory.

Killa Cam

Killa Cam

First up, we have my boy Cam’ron. Let’s get one thing straight: I was a big Dipset fan back in the day. I thought they went real hard, I actually bought all their albums – even Juelz’ first one! But naturally, once they started to blow up (re: Juelz), egos started to clash and friendships started to wane. Then Cam kinda fall off.  He fought off a lyrical battle with the Bully that is 50 Cent. He also did some foolishness while being interviewed on Network TV that just brought straight shame. Cam and Jim Jones ended up having a fall-out unfortunately and are currently not on speaking terms, but I can’t lie, I haven’t really kept up on all the beef. Luckily, Cam’ron’s hiatus has helped him to make good music again, and he is back with this Banga, Get it in Ohio. This is hopefully a hint at what we should expect from his sixth solo effort, Crime Pays.  The song is payin homage to the Mid-West and all the ‘work’ Cam used to get out there. I love this beat – this song reminds me of the good ol’ Dipset days. We need to just all get along, fellas!

Ms Minaj

Ms Minaj

Next up, my girl Nikki Minaj. I am still trying to catch up on Homegirl; I featured her in a music post last week and I’m def feeling this girl. As a female Rap artist, she’s got my ear and I couldn’t even cosign for Remy or even Eve (I liked her style better as a Ruff Ryder). DTP’s Shawna was Bad as well, but she couldn’t be consistent, or sell for that matter. Nikki might just be that great ChokLit Hype the ladies (and fellas?) are checking for. I just think she’s ill with the skills. This track, Keys Under Palm Trees, is a narrative about Nikki chillin in the Jamaican heat, puttin’ in work. Use your imagination. The song is dope and the best thing about it is listening to Nikki tell the story. Very rare! Check it out. Oh, and NO cameos!

Melt in Your Ears: Brandy,Chrisette, Nikki Minaj

New Music straight outta the ChokLit Factory! Let get it!

Still grindin..

Still grindin..

Brandy – Love You the Most

The biggest sign that shows I am slackin on my CD purchases? I haven’t copped Brandy’s newest album. **Dodging Tomatoes** I know, I know, my Bad. I’ve heard very good things about her latest effort, Human. Unfortunately, it hasn’t performed the best on the charts – but the good news is, Brandy is supposedly working on some new material for her next project!  On this track, Brandy is staying true to her musical formula of well, just singing. No dancing, booty-shaking or stripping from this 90s Diva! But Homegirl is still making great music! Take this new track floating around the ‘Nets, Love you the Most. Very somber, easy track that showcases Brandy’s flowing vocals over the soothing beat. Brandy sounds beautiful on this song!

Chrisette Michelle feat. Ne-Yo – What you Do

See, I told ya’ll I would keep up with Chrisette this time! Here is a new song she recorded with Ne-Yo, which I believe is her Second Single. Its a laid-back song, a bit of a duo with her and Ne-Yo. I’m liking this; Chrisette is so listenable as a female artist – I would see myself just sitting back and letting her full Album play. Of course Ne-Yo pens another hit! Take a listen!

Nikki Minaj – I Get Crazy *Note: Link may not be downloadable.

I’ve heard the name, but never knew what Nikki Minaj was about. After visiting her Myspace, I was pretty impressed with the self-described Wonder Woman. Homegirl could give Lil Kim Yung Cho a run for her money! Nikki hails from Jamaica, Queens and is a singer, rapper, songwriter and actress. Her Go Hard freestyle (ok, its def NOT a freestyle!) is BADNESS! Also check the track she did with Drake(all on her Myspace), Best I ever Had – song is Dope. Nikki is co-signed by Wheezy and can back it up! Plus, she looks like a video vixen…where Lola Luv at? Don’t think she got nothing on Nikki! Check out a track she recorded with Lil Wayne, I Get Crazy. I co-sign this Chick as well!
