Sweet Tooth: *New Video* Sade – BabyFather

Sade recently released a video for their second single from their Gold-selling Soldier of Love album, called BabyFather. In the video, Sade plays a sexy homemaker  baking and cleaning as she sings along to her radio and watches the young children playing outside. The song is beautiful, with a Jamaican/Reggae tinge to it. The lyrics speak of a love that grows and eventually leads to a child, then describes the love the father will have for this child. Sade sings,

For you child
For you he’s the best he can be
For you child
For you he’s the best he can be
Oh child don’t you know
Your daddy love come with a life time guarantee
Your daddy knows you’re a flame

The video also features bright colors and has a retro feel to it. Sade looks stunning as usual! Enjoy the video below.

Music News ROLO: Jay-z is NOT a Fan, Sade nearly does 500K, TheDream readies LoveKing

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday! I was lazy as hail all day 😉 But let’s get some news out of the way.

According to US Magazine, Jay-z was not impressed with the latest efforts to re-vamp Michael Jackson’s famed ‘We Are the World‘ benefit song into a 2010 version to help benefit the cause for Haiti. The song/video debuted at the Opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. It featured a unique group of artists ranging from Kanye West (wearing his best MJ impersonation jacket),to the Jonas brothers, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx and Justin Bieber who opened the song. Justin. Bieber.

About the re-make, Jay-Z quipped,

I know everybody is gonna take this wrong: ‘We Are the World,’ I love it, and I understand the point and think it’s great. But I think ‘We Are the World’ is like [Michael Jackson‘s] ‘Thriller’ to me. I don’t ever wanna see it touched,”

I agree with Jay-Z. If you haven’t seen the video, watch the 2010 version here. I actually liked the effort and liked some of the vocal arrangements, but between Wyclef screaming like a fool and Lil Wayne, Akon & T-Pain’s auto-tuned mess, I was left shaking my head. Plus we all know the God MC told us Auto-tune was dead back in ’09…

Jay-Z continued,

I’m a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that’s going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts: Millions have been raised] through text [donations] to Haiti. So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but ‘We Are The World’ is [musically] untouchable like ‘Thriller’ is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it’s gonna be untouchable.

And in true Jay-z fashion, he was able to reflect the situation on himself:

I think it’s time for us to make a new [song]. I tried to do that with ‘Stranded,’ [the tune Jay Z, Rihanna and U2’s Bono and The Edge premiered at the ‘Hope for Haiti Now’ telethon]. I didn’t try to make ‘We Are the World,’ but I tried to make our take on how we felt.

If you haven’t heard the song Stranded, click here. I actually really like this song.

In other R&B news, Singer Sade has pulled a Maxwell; she has returned from her 10-year hiatus to triumphantly return the number one spot on the charts with her newest effort, Soldier of Love.

Melt in Your Ears: Sade – Soldier of Love

Yes I know this song has been all over the Internets for the past couple weeks, but as you all know, I was late 🙂

Sade coming back is sort of a big deal so I had to post. This will be Sade’s newest album since their 2000 album Lovers Rock, that spawned their huge hit (and one of my faves) By Your Side. This is a different sound for the band and sounds nothing like anything on the radio right now – which is a good thing! This will have to grow on me, but I am glad to hear they are back! What do you guys think of this one?

Soldier of Love will be released February 8th.

Oldie Butta Goodie Bar: Sade – By Your Side

Its been a tough few days for me thanks to some harsh deadlines at the plantation work. Deadlines for me usually mean 13 hour work days, countless hours spent in front of a computer screen (sans blogging or music!) and very little sleep. So I am so glad it is all over and I can relax and catch up on some posts! Last night I actually pulled an all-nighter and stayed up until 5am finishing things up. I had to rely on Red Bull, chocolate and my R&B CDs to keep me awake – just like the ‘good’ days in College! Amoung many songs that kept me entertained, was this song, By your Side, from Sade’s 2000 album Lover’s Rock. Back in 2000, I wasn’t really familiar with the band other than it being one my Mom liked to listen to. So this song was a pleasant surprise for me. It is a very calming, beautiful song that speaks about a simple love, but a deep one nonetheless.  This is one of those – “I’mma play this at my wedding”-type songs as well. The video – with very colorful visuals, was directed by Sophie Muller. Enjoy!
