J.U.I.C.Y: Teairra Marie Remixes Drake’s Over in a Bikini, The Dream Covers Aaliyah

Hoping to create a buzz for her upcoming project, Point of No Return, Teairra Marie recorded a remix to Drake’s Over sample and even filmed a video for the track. In the video, Teairra prances around in a sexy, white bikini on a beach in California, teasing the camera. I’m actually diggin this remix, Teairra has got a nice flow! And unlike Ciara who seems out of place rapping on her buzz video, Teairra pulls off the “I will cut you n*gga” image quite well. The video is a nice look for her too. If you are drooling over Teairra’s beach body bikini as much as I am, you can find the Chain of Fools bikini over at Beach BunnySwimwear. It’s about $169 for the top alone and $150 for the bottom…

Oldie Butta Goodie Bar/Chew On This! Aaliyah sings about a Choosey Lover – Where dey at?

After leaving Jive Records in 1996, Aaliyah teamed up with producers Timbaland and Missy Elliot to produce her next album, One in a Million. For that album, Aaliyah recorded a remake of the Isley Brothers’ 1983 hit, Choosey Lover (track 6 on the album).

Here are some lyrics:

Choosey Lover, Boy I’m So Proud Of Ya.
I’m So Glad You Chose Me, Baby.
And I’ll Make You So Happy.

Thought I Had A Love, But I Was Kidding Myself, Baby.
By The Time I Learned The Truth About It,
He Was Sleeping With Someone Else.
But Not You, Baby.

………

Cause You’re givin Me…..givin Me Security, Baby
And You Proven What You Said…(Ohh)
Never Worried About You Baby, Jumpin In And Out Of Bed.
Ohhhh, But Not My Baby.

I used to bump this song all the time, but really began to fully understand the real meaning of the lyrics during the past 2 or 3 years.  According to this song (and my own definitions) a Choosey Lover is someone who simply is a selective or picky person who takes much thought and effort into choosing a mate. They weigh the benefits and negatives aspects of a person, whether it be their past (it matters), their ambitions in life, their morals (very important in my opinion) or the way they treat people in general.

I find with a lot f my friends or acquaintances – men and women, happen to wave or ignore the pursuance of these admirable qualities in a mate and offer various excuses for doing so. These include: ‘hey its hard to find a man/woman out here!’;  or, ‘hey, beggers can’t be choosers!’; or my favorite, ‘I don’t want to die alone!’

To counter these arguments I would argue that when you take care in the kinds of people you choose to bring into your life, you can save yourself from extra drama being brought into your life. And yes, you do have to take a chance, a leap of faith if you will, when choosing to enter into a relationship with someone, I think taking more care into the actual choosing of your mate will determine the level of drama, happiness and heartbreak you will endure as a result of the union.

Pour Out A Lil’ ChokLit Liqour: R.I.P Aaliyah

Aaliyah

Tomorrow will mark 8 years since we lost R&B songstress Aayilah Dana Haughton aka Babygirl. Luckily some of us were able to know Aaliyah and her music before her life was tragically cut short when her plane crashed in the Bahamas back in 2001. Aaliyah was 22 at the time and had just released her third studio album, titled Aaliyah. The album would go on to sell over a million copies and would be applauded by many critics as being one of the best albums of 2001 – if not the best R&B album of that year. The most I can remember of Aaliyah was her very musical maturity and her image uniqueness. Unique is a cliched term in the music industry nowadays, but Aaliyah really did have It. When her video was on, everyone took note. She was mysterious without removing her sunglasses, sexy without showing her ass and talented without having a big voice. Her style was admired but could never be duplicated and her music was timeless. I can always bump her album One in  a Million anytime of the day and not skip a track.  Aaliyah always had great videos to accompany her music, along with tomboyish yet sexy dance moves courtesy of her choreographer Fatima Robinson. The video I wanted to highlight today is Four Page Letter. This is one of my favourite Aaliyah songs and videos. The song itself is vulnerable and sexy courtesy of Timbaland & Missy Elliot’s dream production team that also included singer/songwriter Stephen ‘Static’ Garrett.  This video has Aaliyah peering through the forests during a medieval-set world looking for her warrior lover who has been writing her love letters since being captured (at least that’s my take on it).  Who else can pull off this kind of video? Peep the video below and some links to other memorable videos.

Make sure you leave any comments of your favourite Aaliyah memories.

Oldie Butta GoodieBar: The GoldMind Edition – Nicole Wray & Torrey Carter

Watch me as I get my Late 90s Nostalgia swag on real quick – Where were you when you first heard these songs?

I was snooping around a friend’s room the other day, peeping her CDs (I believe she must have stopped purchasing CDs in 2001, like the rest of North America!) when I came across a CD single for a guy called Torrey Carter. He had a smooth baby face and was wearing a blue bucket-style Kangol hat.

Take That

His face was not familiar to me at first, but the CD was for his debut single, Take That and featured Missy Elliot. This guy was a Goldmind artist! This started to jog my memory: Take that, Take that, Torrey Carter…who is this Cat again?

Finally I gave in and typed the name and song into Youtube. When the video came up and I heard the familiar strong guitar lick and Missy’s voice blaring out the speakers, “Bang this joint!” That was IT! I was nodding my head harder than a head banger – This was the Jaaaaammmmm!
